The weekend is only two days, hardly long enough to truly relax and recuperate from a week of hard work—and many people don’t even have the weekend off.
Sometimes, a vacation is the light at the end of the tunnel that keeps you working through those grueling days and nights. But what if you’re not accumulating enough money to make a vacation worthwhile? As with seemingly everything these days, there’s an app for that. Or rather, several apps for that. Here are ten apps you can download that will help you set aside money to make your next holiday one to remember.
1. Mint: Budgeting is a hassle, but Mint makes it simple and easy. Input your financial data and they’ll make you a personalized budget, as well as give you tips on how to save on your regular expenditures by cutting out fees. It also keeps track of your credit score.
2. Unsplurge: Unsplurge puts the thing you’re saving for front and center, so you can keep your eyes on the prize, and it has a social network component that lets friends and relatives cheer you on as you progress toward your goal.
3. Shopkick: This is one of many apps that lets you earn points by making purchases or even just visiting certain stores. The points you accumulate can then be transferred into gift cards. If you’re conscientious about your spending, it can be a great way to save some dough.
4. GasBuddy: One expense that really eats away at your bank account: gas for your vehicle. You need gas to get around, but there’s no way of knowing if you’re getting the best price when you pull over to refuel. Until now! GasBuddy has a database of user-reported prices, and by reporting them yourself, you get entered in a drawing for $250, given away weekly.
5. Groupon: Like Shopkick, Groupon has the potential to save you money or make you spend more. But if you seek out coupons for purchases you already intend on making, it can save you 50-90%.
6. Hotel Tonight: This app can help you save for or on your vacation. When you’re booking a hotel at the last minute, this app connects you with shockingly low prices, so the next time you’ve got an unexpected layover, open up Hotel Tonight and save yourself some money.
7. Wallaby: If you’ve got a credit card that offers rewards, Wallaby can help you maximize your earnings (which leaves more money in your account for that vacation.) Enter in your card or cards and it will recommend locations to earn rewards (as well as keep track of your credit limit).
8. Qapital: This app lets you automate the process of saving money, so you won’t have to take as much time out of your day to think about how much to set aside. You can set it to automatically transfer a certain amount every week, or dive into their more innovative features, like one that rounds up your spare change from each purchase to the nearest dollar and moves it into an FDIC insured account.
9. Paribus: When stores drop the prices of items, they often offer refunds to customers who have just purchased them at the higher price. But few people take advantage of these offers. Paribus helps you track potential refunds on your purchases, and automatically requests them if they become available.
10. Flipp: Coupon addicts will freak over Flipp. The app includes all of the ads, coupons, and special offers from 800 retailers, and you can link your Flipp account with your store loyalty card to automatically add discounts to be applied when you check out.
